Liposuction, or the removal of excess fat from those stubborn areas that do not respond to diet or exercise, is a very common cosmetic procedure.
At the same time, liposuction is very commonly misunderstood and there are a few liposuction facts that should be cleared up. They may sound surprising because of the common misconceptions, but are vital to understanding what liposuction is really about.
1. Liposuction Is Not a Weight Loss Procedure
Liposuction is designed for those who want to get rid of the few stubborn fat deposits in small problematic areas.
However illogical it may sound, while liposuction indeed removes fat from problematic areas, it is not designed to help you lose weight. You may lose inches after liposuction, but don’t expect to lose significant numbers when it comes to looking at pounds on the bathroom scale.
The ideal candidate for liposuction actually needs to be quite close to their desired final weight in order to achieve the look they want.
2. Liposuction Recovery is Fast
Depending on the amount of fat removed, recovery from a liposuction procedure is typically very fast and easy. Most people only feel mild bruising for a few days following the surgery, but can resume normal activities as soon as the first day after having a liposuction done.
However, it can take up to several months to see the final results, as residual swelling can remain in the treated areas. A visible improvement should be visible as soon as a month following the surgery though.
3. Liposuction Results Last Long-Term
Liposuction is not a quick fix for getting the perfect body. In order to maintain your liposuction results long-term, you’ll have to be committed to healthy lifestyle habits like eating right and exercising. However, as long as you continue prioritizing your health, you can expect your lipo results to last long-term.
