Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure, meaning that you will be able to return home the same day as your surgery to begin your recovery period. With the modern breast implant techniques Dr. Martin uses, many of our patients experience very little discomfort after surgery and are ready to return to most of their regular activities after just a few days.
Taking good care of yourself after your breast augmentation not only helps to speed recovery but can also affect the long-term quality of your breast enhancement results. It is important for you to closely following the post-surgical instructions you will receive from our office.
Please contact us online or call 575-243-8344 to schedule a visit to our plastic surgery office in Las Cruces, serving El Paso and all of Southern New Mexico. Dr. Scot A. Martin has performed thousands of breast augmentation procedures and our experience will help you recover in the fastest manner possible so that you can return to your regular daily activities within a few short days.
The First 3-4 Days after Breast Augmentation
- It is common to feel tired and sore for several days after surgery. You will be provided a prescription for pain medication and you should focus on getting plenty of rest but we will have you moving your arms and walking several times a day.
- Dr. Martin uses no drains for his breast augmentation procedures and the only dressing we use are a piece of light tape over the incision, gauze and a sports bra. You will also be able to shower the following morning of your surgery. We want to make you as comfortable as possible after surgery.
- Your breasts will be slightly swollen after surgery, and your implants will be high as well. This will take several weeks to subside and we will start you on our customized breast implant massaging program at two weeks. This is designed to help the implants “fall” into position faster.
- Depending on your job, you should be ready to return to work in 3 to 4 days, but you may need to wait longer if your job is physically demanding.
The Next Few Weeks after Surgery
- After post-surgical swelling goes down, your implants will still sit high and generally will need 8-12 weeks to completely settle into the pocket. Your breasts may remain more sensitive to touch than usual for several weeks.
- Dr. Martin will let you know when you are cleared to begin more strenuous activities such as jogging or weight lifting. It’s important to avoid strenuous upper body exercises that use of your arms and chest until you are given the OK.
- We are always available to answer your questions or address any concerns about the breast implant recovery process. We want you to feel comfortable, confident and recover quickly.
