How Close Is Close Enough for a Pre-Mommy Makeover Goal Weight?

You may have heard about the confidence boosting benefits of a mommy makeover and tummy tuck, and you are eager to get your makeover scheduled. There’s just one thing, you’re not exactly sure how close to your goal weight you need to be for your tummy tuck.
While there is not an exact weight you must be at prior to your surgery, there is a range that most plastic surgeons will recommend. Although a mommy makeover is a great way to help sculpt and contour your body, it’s not an alternative for weight loss. With this in mind, most surgeons will suggest being within 10 to 15 pounds of your ideal weight.
Maintain Your Goal Weight for at least 6 to 12 Months
Having a tummy tuck before your weight has stabilized could negatively impact your results. Weight fluctuations may cause the skin and abdominal tissues to stretch or loosen accordingly. If you are close to your desired weight, and able to maintain it over time, you are more likely to see longer-term benefits from the procedure and minimize the need for future revision procedures.
Any significant weight changes after surgery may alter the long-term results.
Your surgeon may recommend that you not only be within reach of your goal weight but that you have maintained your weight for about 6 to 12 months prior to your procedure. Significant weight loss immediately before the procedure is not recommended as this may increase the risk of vitamin deficiencies that can delay or disrupt the natural healing process.
Be Candid with Your Plastic Surgeon
Whether you’re hoping to schedule a tummy tuck to create a tighter and leaner look for your abdominal area, or your planning to combine a tummy tuck as a part of a mommy makeover package, it’s wise to be candid with your plastic surgeon about your aesthetic goals. Dr. Martin will help you determine if you are close enough to your goal weight for your tummy tuck and whether the procedure is best for you.
